March into Yellow

Endometriosis Australia has partnered with Spree with Me for March into Yellow. March into Yellow challenges you to wear yellow everyday in March to start the conversation about endometriosis, and raise funds for research.

We were invited to take some well-known Australians and endometriosis advocates on Spree With Me styling and shopping adventures to inspire more women to wear yellow this month to support their great cause.

Spree with Me personal Stylist Carla and Bridget Hustwaite

The first styling session was with Bridget Hustwaite, a radio announcer host of Good Nights on Triple J, and an Ambassador of Endometriosis Australia.

Carla Daniele, a Personal Stylist with Spree with Me, volunteered to style Bridget in yellow with a focus on Australian labels.

See Carla’s profile and her services here.

This was the first time Bridget has worked with a personal stylist and she hadn’t considered it an accessible service, until now.

The styling session started with a consultation a few days prior to the ‘Spree’ to understand Bridget’s personal tastes in fashion, style goals, and lifestyle needs.

Bridget described her usual style as casual with lots of band t-shirts, skirts and sneakers. Comfort is key theme in Bridget’s outfit choices. Like many women with endometriosis, Bridget prefers items that fit loosely around the belly. Armed with this information, Carla completed a pre-shop to in the lead-up to the big day to save time during their shopping Spree together. They shopped together in inner-city Melbourne.

Carla said “it was a fun challenge to find yellow clothing items that could be used in the wardrobe every day and could also be styled in different but versatile ways, and all within Bridget’s boundaries of personal style.”

On the day, Carla realised that Bridget identified herself as a size or two above her actual size. Bridget was shown how to select clothes of the correct size that didn’t need to be too big or baggy to feel comfortable.

Bridget looked best in darker yellows and yellow prints, and ‘buttery yellows’ tended to give her a slightly ‘washed out’ look. Carla’s styling advice is:

“There’s no colour that you can’t wear but some colours will look better than others. If a colour does wash out your face, you can off-set it by wearing a brighter lipstick, colourful earrings, necklace or even a scarf. Alternatively you could choose to wear that tone below the waist and one of your ‘wow’ colours closer to your face”.

Below are the looks that Carla created, and the designers:

Look 1: Sportsgirl

Sportsgirl has some great yellow options at the moment that can be mixed and matched. This yellow satin cami and slip skirt can, for example, be worn separately in a number of ways, or together as a yellow dress.

Worn separately, they’re extremely versatile pieces. The skirt can be worn with sneakers or with heels and the cami can be layered with pants and a denim jacket or suit jacket. The a-symmetrical top with the yellow skirt elevates the look for a nice dinner out.

Bridget thought that when worn as a dress she felt pretty glamorous.

Look 2: Camilla and Marc

This shop was new to Bridget. Of course, a great benefit of shopping with a stylist is finding out new Australian labels.

This Monet Mini Dress has a long sleeve cold shoulder with an adjustable cord. The bold print and dark yellow colour suited Bridget perfectly.

Carla said she thinks “dresses like this with a full print are a great way for anyone to hide any lumps and bumps or bloated tummies”.

Carla recommends creating new looks with a dress by wearing it with different shoes and accessories – as shown.

Look 3: Arnsdorf

Ethical Clothing Australia accredited

Arnsdorf is a modern local Melbourne designer, based on a foundation of transparency, ethical manufacturing and sustainability.

This yellow denim mini skirt sits high on the waist and features classic denim detailing with pockets. The stitching is tan and has been coordinated with a tan belt. The belt is also a great way to break up the complete yellow look. Match buttery yellows with a tan belt or accessories.

The a-line shape is flattering to a small waist as it flares out. It’s made of 100% organic cotton.

Look 4: Cue

This look is a great combination of some of the best elements in the other styles.

This dark yellow and leopard print shirt suits Bridget fabulously.

The black A-line skirt to match is very flattering and is an extremely versatile wardrobe staple that’s very much in season. The simplicity of the skirt makes the shirt pop even more; it’s a perfectly opposing look of matching a structured skirt with a soft blouse.
